Blog #5 Walking with the dinosaurs

For this week’s blog I am going to talk about dinosaurs. I have always loved dinosaurs ever since I can remember. When I was a little kid I would always ask for dinosaur toys for Christmas and birthdays.  One specific Christmas when I was eight years old I remember waking up and finding a giant red bag filled with dinosaur action figures, it was literally the greatest gift ever. Now I have always had trouble deciding which my overall favorite dinosaur is, but I have narrowed it down to my top three.  I would say a, Velociraptor, Tyrannosaurus-rex, and a plesiosaur which is like the Lockness monster.  I really like velociraptors from the movie Jurassic park, I really enjoyed how clever and smart they were. I thought it was awesome, how the raptors could work together to figure out ways to eat the people in the movie. I also liked how they could open doors and would attack from the side. Now my love for tyrannosaurusrexes comes from the movie The Land before Time. In the movie they would call a t-rex a “sharp tooth” because they had sharp teeth and when I was a kid I just thought this was hilarious. I also like t-rexes because they are the most powerful dinosaur ever and could easily defeat any other dinosaur such as a triceratops. I also just like how scary t-rexes look especially the one at Universal studios from the Jurassic Park water ride. At the end of the ride there is a giant mechanical t-rex that looks like it is going to eat you, it is really cool. Now for the plesiosaur, I like them simply because the way they look.  A plesiosaur has four fins like a whale, a long tale, a roundish body, and a thin long neck. It also lives in water, but looks like land dinosaur, so it is really crazy and different from any other animal ever. So basically I think the world would be way cooler if dinosaurs were still alive today ): (341).

Pictures and words

I find this weeks blog topic fairly difficult to write about because it is about reading. Personnaly I hate reading and do not do it very often if ever. However I will try my best about talking about reading books with pictures and without pictures and how I approach them.  One of the few books I do enjoy reading is Dr.seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas. This book contains several pictures on every page. I feel that when I read this book I just read the words and then look at the picture after I finish reading the page. To be honest I do not go  into much depth while looking at the pictures or reading the words.  I just look at the pictures because I enjoy looking at colorful pictures, I am an very simple person and do not like to complicate things because I feel that will ruin it for me.  I know in class we learned how pictures can mean a lot more then just a simple fun picture,  but I still do not try to analzye things anymore than I have to.  I also take the same approach for reading books without pictures. I just simply do not go in depth at all, for example I read the book The Lord of the Flies. I would think most people would consider this book to be very visual and would analzye it by thinking  about what the books settings looks like and what the characters look like but, not me. I simply just read the book and do not think about much except what is going to happen next. I do not wonder what a paticular scene in the book looks like I just read. Even after I saw the movie of  The Lord of the Flies I was not like wow im surprised Raplh (one of the main characters in the book) looked the way he did I just did not care I just watched. So overall my approaches to reading book with pictures and with out pictures is the same which is to not analzye or think just enjoy. I also do not plan on changing this way of approaching books anytime soon. (368)

Disney Much? (mystery mark)

Due to the fact that I can blog about any thing in the world, I would have to be crazy to not blog about my favorite thing in the world Disney World. I have been to Disney world over 20 times in my life and each time I go there it is just as much fun as the last time, it never gets old.  I have been thinking about Disney world a lot this week because my Mom asked me if I wanted to go this week. However I unfortunately declined the offer because, I did not want to miss a week of school. So now I am stuck here in the freezing cold at ISU while my family is enjoying the magical weather of Orlando Florida. Instead of letting this Disney talk get me down, I will instead think of all my favorite things about Disney to hopefully cheer me up. First I will talk about my favorite rides. I really like one of the fairly newer rides at Animal kingdom, Expedition Everest. This ride takes you on a journey though Mt. Everest on a roller coaster in hopes to find the mysterious Yeti, but you get more then you bargain for when the Yeti finds you. My next favorite ride would the Rocking Roller coaster ride at MGM studios now called Hollywood studios. This ride is amazing; it is a rollercoaster that looks like a stretch limo, and goes from 0-60 within seconds, and the best part about it is throughout the whole ride Aero Smith is blasting in your ears. Now my favorite ride of all time is got to be Splash Mountain at Magic Kingdom, A wild log ride that takes you through a tunnel of woodland critters singing songs. The ride starts out peaceful and relaxing but ends with a big surprise (Spoiler alert) a giant plunge, but my favorite part is at the very end when the woodland critters are singing my favorite Disney song “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah”. A few other rides that are high on my list and would highly recommend doing are Kilimanjaro Safari ride, The Tower of Terror, Summit Plummet, and Shark reef (water rides at Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon). Aside from rides my all time favorite thing to do at Disney world is hang out by the hotel pool with my family and just relax.  After all this talk about Disney world I can not wait to go again, but hopefully the next time my family goes I can too. Commercials

Never thought I would have to blog about commercials. Honestly I forgot all about commercials because now with the DVR technology you can just skip commercials. I always have hated commercials and have never really paid much attention to them. I usually just do something else until the TV show I was watching comes back on. However now that I had to pay attention to the commercials I was watching, I never realized how much the commercials relate to the program you are watching. The first television program I watched was A&E and the show was Storage Wars. I would say over 75% of the commercials were all A&E shows, such as Billy the Exterminator, Storage wars Texas, Dog the bounty Hunter, Shipping Wars, Break Out kings, and a few other A&E shows. In all of these commercials it would promote the show by showing a quick interesting clip of the show, to make the audience say wow that looks pretty neat, I might want to check that out. Then at the end of the commercial it would give you the date and time of when the show would be on. These commercial make perfect sense for A&E because it is promoting the people watching their current show to comeback and watch more A&E shows. So the commercials that A&E are showing are intended for people who are already A&E fans it would seem. A&E also showed a few commercials about Restaurants and Insurances companies, which I am assuming, is intended for the older audience.

Now the second show I watched for and Hour was ESPN. I was shocked on how related all the commercials were to the ESPN program. All the commercials shown were intended for and older male audience or for sports fans in general. They had commercials advertising sporting events, sporting goods, and a lot of commercials involving men products like weight loss and style. There was two specific commercial that I thought went great together. The first was advertising a product to called Insta Slim T-shirt, which is used to make men look thinner instantly. Then the next commercial after that was a weight loss program called the Nutrisystem Diet. Not only was it a special weight loss program for men, but also it was being endorsed by Dan Marino a Hall of Fame Quarterback who is a huge well-known sports icon. I thought these two commercials fit so well together and to the ESPN program because they were both intended for older males and both were about making males look better. Also the fact that the Nutrisystem was endorsed by a sports figure and the ESPN show is all about sports I though it was a perfect fit. So overall I thought ESPN did a great job with their commercials and nailing their intended audience of older males and sports fans.   (476)
