Pictures and words
I find
this weeks blog topic fairly difficult to write about because it is about
reading. Personnaly I hate reading and do not do it very often if ever. However
I will try my best about talking about reading books with pictures and without
pictures and how I approach them. One of
the few books I do enjoy reading is Dr.seuss’s
How the Grinch Stole Christmas. This book contains several pictures on
every page. I feel that when I read this book I just read the words and then
look at the picture after I finish reading the page. To be honest I do not
go into much depth while looking at the
pictures or reading the words. I just
look at the pictures because I enjoy looking at colorful pictures, I am an very
simple person and do not like to complicate things because I feel that will
ruin it for me. I know in class we learned how pictures
can mean a lot more then just a simple fun picture, but I still do not try to analzye things
anymore than I have to. I also take the
same approach for reading books without pictures. I just simply do not go in
depth at all, for example I read the book The
Lord of the Flies. I would think most people would consider this book to be
very visual and would analzye it by thinking
about what the books settings looks like and what the characters look
like but, not me. I simply just read the book and do not think about much
except what is going to happen next. I do not wonder what a paticular scene in
the book looks like I just read. Even after I saw the movie of The Lord of the Flies I was not like wow im
surprised Raplh (one of the main characters in the book) looked the way he did I
just did not care I just watched. So overall my approaches to reading book with
pictures and with out pictures is the same which is to not analzye or think
just enjoy. I also do not plan on changing this way of approaching books
anytime soon. (368)
Dr. Seuss has many great works, but i believe The Sneetches is his masterpiece.
ReplyDeleteI disagree, Although the Sneetches is pretty good. I think that the Lorax is his true masterpiece.

I really like this book as well. I'm not much of a reader either. I remember reading Lord of the Flies in high school and absolutely hated it. All the books that are required to read are awful.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the whole not analzying pictures too much, at least anymore. When I was younger I did all the time, the pictures were the only thing that was important to me when reading but as i've gotten older I don't see the pictures as being as important anymore. And how the Grinch Stole Christmas really is a great book!!!
ReplyDeleteI understand not wanting to analyze everything you read or watch. Sometimes you just want to read, listen to music, or watch movies for fun. However, sometimes it is in our best interest in not taking a text for just face value. It can give us a deeper appreciation for the work.
ReplyDeleteAnd if we all just consumed things without critically thinking about what we were consuming...then we'd be mindless zombies wouldn't we?
Wonderful post. I think it is very informative post. Makr David.
